Quality Crew Guidelines Workshop

The following is a workshop on implementing the Quality Crew Guidelines

Time: 30 mins

Materials:
Print outs of attachments - wall posters (37 pages), QCG Implementation Plan (one per Crew). (Find attachement at end of this article)
Blu-tack
Lots of pencils

Preparation:
Blu-tack the wall posters around the building. Outside, upstairs, wherever.

Introduction:
Name game/ice-breaker/physical activity.

Explain the outcomes of last month's workshop, and how they have been actioned since the last Gathering.

Discuss the history of the 'Extraordinary Rovers=Extraordinary Crews' Conference. Explain that everyone's thoughts on what made a good Crew were boiled down over several months into our Quality Crew Guidelines. The only thing that separates an ordinary Crew from an extraordinary Crew is a plan!

Task 1 - 10-15mins
Each Rover to take a pencil and write one suggestion on each Quality Crew Guideline on how it could be implemented
E.g. Guideline = "The Crew Leader has attended a Basic Course" - suggestion could be: 'Write in the Crew Leader's position description that they must have attended a Rover Basic, or are prepared to complete their training within three months of reaching office'.

Reassemble in the main room. Maybe highlight some of the funnier or more insightful suggestions you have noticed.
Hand-out the implementation plan pro forma, one per Crew.

Task 2 - 10-15 mins
Crews to fill in their own plan, using suggestions from around the building. If they like, they can first critically assess their own Crew to see what is not currently being achieved.

Reassemble. Explain that this exercise is only truly useful if the people in the room follow up on their plans. Explain that it is the Leadership Team's responsibility to make triennial visits to Rover Crews to monitor these guidelines. Challenge Rovers to take their plans, or elements from their plans, back to a Business Meeting and introduce it into the week-to-week running if the Crew.
