Olave Program News

Be the Change - Applications can be found at http://www.guidesvic.org.au/_uploads/71619Be_the_Change_Flyer_and_App_2010.pdf. Be The Change is a workshop funded by AusAid to educate young people about advocacy and the Millennium Development Goals. Community Representatives aged 14-18 years are invited to apply to participate in a state based workshop, to be held in Melbourne on 18-19th September 2010.

Centenary Ball - All Rovers and members of Scouting aged 18+ are invited to attend the Girl Guide Victoria's Centenary Ball. Rover Dinner 2010

Rover Dinner Tickets are now available at www.vicrovers.com, simply select "Rover Dinner" from the Events Menu.

For $46 includes a three course meal. Rover Dinner is the Victorian Rovers annual awards night, including presentation of the W.F Waters Award, Branch Commissioners Award, BRC Chairman's Award and Rover Scout Motorsport Championship Awards. This is a great night to catch up on Rovering and to see the unveiling of the Annual Rover Yearbook.

Working With Children's Cards are starting to expire after the three year validity period. To renew your card, collect a renewal for at Australia Post and fill it in. Make sure you send your receipt to your nearest Scout Service Centre.

Mafeking News

Rovers are reminded that there is to be no glass taken on site to Mafeking Rover Park. Additionally, Crews are asked to make sure their RSM Vehicles are cleaned before arriving at Mafeking as a number of foreign weeds are appearing in motorsport areas from mud/seeds dropped by vehicles.

Weed are becoming a serious environmental issue at Mafeking. Please ensure all motorsport vehicles are clean before bringing them on site. If you vehicle is excessively dirty, you may not be permitted to have your vehicle scruitineered as per the RSM Standing Regulations.

Rover Conduct

The Branch Rover Council recieved a complaint regarding the conduct of a Rover crew at an event. As a result, this conduct was investigated using the "Court of Honour" process. Rovers are reminded that at all times they are to behave in good standing within the movement and must consider their actions at all times. Conduct that goes against the basic standards of Rovering will be dealt with accordingly.

Surfmoot 2011: Top That!

Tickets will be on sale by 6th August! Presold tickets are $55 each and available at www.surfmoot.com Save up to $20 by buying tickets online instead of at the gate!

Surfmoot is running from 20th - 23rd January 2011, note that the Friday is not a public holiday.

Tenders for crew fundraisers are now open, please note that the bar, clothing, stubbie holders and ice have already been allocated. Plenty of options for fundraising such as stubbie holders, canteen or other products & services! If you are using the Rover Logo (Victorian or National) you must meet the guidelines for Rover Merchanise. These can be found on the VicRovers Website under Committee & Rover Council > Rover Merchandise & Copyright

You are welcome to stay at Eumeralla between OzMoot and Surfmoot at a cost of $10 per night, per Rover. This is from the Monday to the Thursday before the event, basic amenities are included.

Event & Property Subcommittee AGMs

We're coming into AGM season! There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with running major events in Rovering or taking a lead role in the development of the three properties Victorian Rovers own! AGMs are held to report on the previous year of applicable committee plus the opportunity to elect the new management groups for each of them. The dates for the AGMs are:

  • Baw Baw Rover Chalet - Saturday 16th October 2010, 2pm at W.F Waters Ski Chalet (location tentative)
  • Bogong Rover Chalet - Wednesday 13th October 2010, 8pm at the Victorian Rover Centre

This is an awesome opportunity to get involved in the operation of these committees and have a chance to work in fields you may not have normally had an opportunity to get involved in. Ever wondered what it's like to work on a committee with a operating budget of over $50,000?
